Shaving the beard upon the wife's request

If a wife tells her husband that for the continuation of their marital relationship he must shave his beard, then should he shave his beard or divorce his wife?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Keeping the beard was a tradition of all prophets and is of the symbols of Islam. For this reason, it is essential for an adult Muslim male to keep a beard. However, it is not permissible to trim the beard to the extent that it becomes less than a fist’s length. For this reason, it will not be permissible for the questioner to shave his beard upon his wife’s request. In fact, he should use wisdom in trying to make her understand the importance of keeping the beard. However, if in spite of this she does not cease making this request and insists on you giving her Talaq (Divorce), then in that case, there would be no harm in giving her one Talaq.
