Respected Mufti Sahib,As-Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!
I wish to inquire about a particular issue,Kindly provide a response in accordance with the Shari‘ah of Muhammad (peace be upon him).
There is a UBL (United Bank Limited) branch located near the mosque. The bank officials, with permission from the mosque administration, have installed a water pump in the mosque’s well, and the bank is receiving water from it. The pump runs on the bank’s own electricity, only the mosque’s well is being used. The bank is paying the mosque 500 rupees per month
.The question is:Is it permissible to take 500 rupees from the bank for the mosque, and is it allowed for the bank to use the mosque’s water?
Considering that the mosque is not incurring any loss in fact, it is benefiting from this arrangement.
If this situation does not cause any harm to the mosque’s worshippers, and rather results in benefit, then in such a case, selling the water is permissible. However, if dealing with the bank regarding the provision of water is causing displeasure or ill feelings, then it is better to avoid it.
