Respected Sir, Assalam Alaikum,
I am living in Jeddah for the last several years and intend to perform Haj (my fifth) this year. One of my friends living in Lahore and who has recently been affected by paralysis of the lower half has requested me to perform Haj Badal for him. He is in a good financial position and he would have performed his farz Haj himself had he not been affected by paralysis. My question is: Can I perform Haj Badal for him? Do I have to accept the Haj expenses from my friend?
Please advise as soon as possible.

In order for Hajj-e-Badal to be valid, the one performing Hajj must undertake the journey from the homeland of the one on whose behalf Hajj is being performed. For this reason, the questioner cannot perform Hajj for his friend in Lahore from Jedda. The questioner’s friend must, instead, find someone from his own homeland (i.e. Lahore) who has already performed Hajj, and request him to perform it on his behalf.
And Allah knows best.
