Salah performed in a room where there are handicrafts of horses and angels

We have an opened cupboard attached to the wall in one of the rooms in our house, in which books are stored. There are pictures of the authors on the front cover of some of the books, which are very noticeable. Is it permissible to perform Salah in this room? What is the ruling of the Salah performed in a room where there are handicrafts of horses and angels? If there is a picture of one’s peer sahib in the room, then can Salah be performed there? Similarly, can Salah be performed in a room where there are toys with pictures on them, or plastic dolls or toy animals? If these things are placed on a bed, can Salah be performed in the room?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

It is disliked for one to perform Salah in a room where there are noticeable pictures of any living thing in front, on the right or on the left side of him. One must avoid performing Salah in such a place. However, if it is not possible to immediately remove the pictures, and instead he hides the pictures by placing a cloth over them (or by whichever means), then it will be permissible for him to perform Salah in that room without any dislike.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کما فی رد المحتار: وکرہ (التربع) إلی قولہ (ولبس ثوب فیہ تماثیل) ذی روح وان یکون فوق رأسہ أو بین یدیہ أو بحذائہ) یمنۃ او یسرۃ أو محل سجودہ (تمثال) ولو فی وسادۃ منصوبہ لا مفروشہ۔ وفی الشامیۃ (قولہ فوق رأسہ) أی فی السقف معراج (قولہ تمثال) أی مرسوم فی جدار أو غیرہ او موضوع او معلق۔ الخ (ج۱، ص۶۴۷) واللہ اعلم بالصواب
