I wish to acquire fatwa regarding Qurbani. My father use to give Qurbani on behalf of all the family members (7 in number). Now, I no longer live with my father but my father give Qurbani on my behalf as well. I also give some money to my mother for household expanses. My question is: Do I have to give Qurbani separately from that of my father Or Will my father's Qurbani on my behalf suffice? I have enough money to buy an animal for myself.
If before commencing with the sacrifice of a large animal, the questioner's father had received the approval of the other six family members interested in participating in the animal sacrifice to perform the sacrifice on their behalf as well , then the sacrifice will be valid for the questioner's father all of the other participating members. Therefore it is necessary for the questioner's father to take permission from the members who wish to participate before fulfilling this essential act. If the questioner expresses his approval to his father before the sacrifice is performed, then there would be no need for him to do another animal sacrifice separately. However, if the questioner has the means, and wishes to perform a separate sacrifice as well, then it will be permissible for him to do such, however, this sacrifice will be counted as a supererogatory (Nafl) act of worship.
Allah knows best.
