An Asthmatically patient (suffers from difficulty in breathing) observe fasting?

Assalamu Alaikum
Can an Asthmatically patient (who suffers from difficulty in breathing) observe fasting? Such a patient uses inhaler and can he use it, if it is found necessary?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Undoubtedly it is correct and permissible for such a person to observe Fasting . Using an inhaler invalidates the Fast and using due to helpless situation under compulsion will break Fast and there is no Kaffara for it but making Qadha is necessary.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کمافي الدر:(أو دخل حلقه غبار أو ذباب أودخان)ولو ذاكرا استحسانا لعدم امكان التحرز عنه،ومفاده أنه لو ادخل حلقه الدخان افطر اى دخان كان ولو عودا او عنبرا لو ذاكرا لامكان التحرز عنه اھ
وکما في الشامية: (قوله انه لو أدخل حلقه الدخان) أي بأي صورة كان الادخال،حتى تبخر ببخور فآواه الى نفسه واشتمه ذاكرا لصومه افطر لامكان التحرر عنه،وهذا ما يغفل عنها كثير من الناس اھ(3/390) ۔
