Ruling on making cartoon images

Is it permissible to make cartoon images? If the drawing is not done with that much detail that the image does not resemble an actual human being, will it still be unlawful? If one’s intention for doing this is not to try and copy the creation of Allah, then what will be the ruling?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

If the cartoon is not a clear image of a human being or any other living thing, nor is it comprised of anything immoral or illegitimate as per Shari'ah, then it will be permissible to make such images or look at them. Nonetheless, the ruling on such things are not based on one’s intention, in fact, it is based on Shar’ee principles.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

وفی البحر: ’’ولا بأس بہ علی بساط فیہ تصاویر لکن لا یسجد علیہا، ثم قال: ثم التمثال إن کان علی وسادۃ أو بساط لا بأس باستعمالہا وإن کان یکرہ اتخاذہ‘‘۔۔۔۔۔۔ (۲/ ۲۸)۔
وفی فقہ البیوع: ’’ثم الظاہر أن من أجاز ہذہ اللعب للبنات فإنما أجاز اللّعب الصغیرۃ التی لا تشابہ الأصنام (۱/ ۳۲۰) واللہ الہادی إلی الصواب
