Ruling on working in the I.T department of a financial institution

I have a question related to a job. Here, in Saudi Arabia, there is a job offer from American Express Credit Card Company. I am a software engineer so my job will be related to the I.T department. Will it be permissible for me to accept this job offer?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

It is allowed to work in the I.T department of any financial institution as long as the said department has no direct connection with the interest transactions that take place in the institution. However, it would still be better to seek employment in an institution that does not participate in interest transactions.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

فی فقہ البیوع للمفتی تقی العثمانی: فإن کانت الوظیفۃ تتضمن مباشرۃ العملیات الربویۃ، أو العملیات المحرمۃ الأخری فقبول ھذہ الوظیفۃ حرام (إلی قولہ) أما إذا کانت الوظیفۃ لیس لھا علاقۃ مباشرۃ بالعملیات الربویۃ مثل وظیفۃ الحارس أو السائق (إلی قولہ) فلا یحرم قبولھا إن لم یکن ھٰذہ الإعانۃ علی العملیات المحرمۃ، وإن کان الاجتناب عنہ أولی۔ اھـ (ج٢، ص١٠٤٤) واللہ تعالیٰ اعلم بالصواب
