I am a Hafiza of the Holy Qur’an, however, due to the many responsibilities I have been burden with after marriage, I have forgotten a great portion on the Holy Qur’an. I do recite it by looking, however, I am not able to recite it by memory. What are the rights of the Qur’an? What does the Shari’ah say about this? What should I do?
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Forgetting the Qur’an after having memorized it is a great sin, the warnings for which has been narrated in many Ahadith. For this reason, the questioner must beg Allah to pardon her for this mistake and try her utmost best to rememorize the portion of the Qur’an that she has forgotten. She should also supplicate to Allah to make the memorization of the Qur’an easy, and assist her in retaining it. If the questioner adheres to this, then it is hopeful that Allah does not take her to task for her mistake.
And Allah knows best.
