Ruling on Correcting a Crooked Nose

My nose is crooked, which makes it appear swollen on one side. Can I undergo septo-rhinoplasty, even though I do not have any difficulty in breathing? I am thirty years old, my marriage is not being arranged, and my parents are very worried.

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

It should be understood that if a physical defect causes bodily or psychological discomfort or a sense of inferiority, and it can only be corrected through surgery, then undergoing such surgery—provided no part of another human being is used—may be permissible in cases of genuine necessity. However, performing surgery solely for unnecessary beautification is impermissible and must be strictly avoided.
Therefore, in the present case, if the defect in the questioner’s nose does not cause any medical or psychological difficulty, surgery purely for cosmetic purposes should be avoided. However, if the questioner or her family experiences mental or social distress due to this defect, and it is creating an obstacle to her marital life, then, upon the advice of a competent and religiously observant medical professional, surgery may be permissible to the extent of necessity.

کما فی تفسیر قرطبی: "وهذه الأمور كلها قد شهدت الأحاديث بلعن فاعلها وأنها من الكبائر. واختلف في المعنى الذي نهي لأجلها، فقيل: لأنها من باب التدليس. وقيل: من باب تغيير خلق الله تعالى، كما قال ابن مسعود، وهو أصح، وهو يتضمن المعنى الأول. ثم قيل: هذا المنهي عنه إنما هو فيما يكون باقيا، لأنه من باب تغيير خلق الله تعالى، فأما مالا يكون باقيا كالكحل والتزين به للنساء فقد أجاز العلماء ذلك مالك وغيره، وكرهه مالك للرجال، (5/393، دار الكتب المصرية)-
و فی فتاوی شامی "واتخاذ الأنف فجوز الأنف من الذهب لضرورة نتن الفضة لأن المحرم لا يباح إلا لضرورة وقد اندفعت في السن بالفضة فلا حاجة إلى الأعلى وهو الذهب. قال الأتقاني: ولقائل أن يقول مساعدة لمحمد لا نسلم أنها في السن ترتفع بالفضة لأنها تنتن أيضا وأصل ذلك ما روى الطحاوي بإسناده إلى «عرفجة بن أسعد أنه أصيب أنفه يوم الكلاب في الجاهلية فاتخذ أنفا من ورق فأنتن عليه، فأمره النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أن يتخذ أنفا من ذهب، ففعل،(کتاب الحظر والاباحہ،362/6،ط: مطبعۃ مصطفی الباہی الحلبی)-
