Assalamu Alaikum!
I am in the army, and a fund under the name "DSP" is collected from the salary every month. Whoever contributes, contributes from the salary, some ten, some fifteen and the like. When it reaches to one lakh, then annually 15 or 20 thousand is added on top of this one lakh. The added amount is increased based on number of lakhs increased. The amount of money received, based on no of lakhs, is halal or haram?
If the DSP Fund policy is mandatory and compulsory by the said institution, then in such a case, the amount deducted from the salary every month, and the increase made by the department on its own behalf every month, and then the amount collected annually as interest on the total, according to Sharia, the ruling on all these three amounts is the same, and that is, that all these amounts are actually part of the employee's salary, even if they are given in the form of interest or some other name, and the questioner has the right to take it. However, if the questioner is sure that the institution is keeping this amount in an interest-bearing bank and giving profit from the interest, then it is better to be cautious about taking it. However, if this policy is not mandatory by the institution, and the employee takes this policy of his own free will and discretion, then it will not be right for the employee to take the additional amount received on it because of the resemblance of interest.
