There is a masjid that gathers funds in the name of their masjid and madrasa. But there are no living facilities for the students in this masjid, nor do they follow the madrasa syllabus. Only the recitation of the Quran is taught there and all of the children who study there are of the locality. They return home after their studies. Is it permissible to gather funds when the conditions of being a madrasa is not met? If this money is given as a salary to the administrators or Imam of the masjid, is it permissible for them to take it? The second thing is that funds are also being gathered to install a speaker in this masjid. The names of the donators are recorded. Whoever hasn’t yet donated, their names are kept and they wait for them to until they donate. Is it permissible to collect donation in this manner?
It is permissible to gather funds for the masjid in an appropriate manner, but it is not correct to create a ploy to make sure that people donate. This should be avoided. If the administration of the masjid and madrasa is the same, it is also permissible to gather funds for both of them at the same time, and it will be permissible to fulfill the necessities of the madrasa and masjid, their construction expenses, salary of the Imam and Muazin etc. from this money. Furthermore, having students living in a madrasa is not a condition for gathering funds for the masjid or madrasa. However, is someone wants to give any mandatory charity (Zakat, Sadaqa Fitr etc.) to the masjid and madrasa, then he cannot give it directly. However, after Shar’i Tamleek, there will be no harm in using the money given in mandatory charity on the masjid, madrasa, salary etc. Also, it is allowed to encourage people to donate funds towards good works, but exploiting this method to shame people into donating is absolutely in correct, and a means of ruining the reputation of religious people and madaris, which should be avoided at all costs.
