Taking a false oath on Holy Quran

What is the expiation (کفارۃ) for placing ones hand on the Holy Quran and taking a false oath if one was compelled to?

الجوابُ حامِدا ًو مُصلیِّا ً

Taking false oaths is a major sin, so much so that it cannot be expiated by anything except sincere repentance. This is why one should refrain from taking false oaths in all circumstances.

مأخَذُ الفَتوی

کما فی الہدایۃ: قال الأیمان علی ثلاثۃ أضرب الیمین العموس ویمین منعقدۃ ویمین لغو فالغموس ہو الحلف علی أمر ماض یتعمد الکذب فیہ فہذہ الیمین یأثم فیہا صاحبہا لقولہ علیہ الصلوٰۃ والسلام من حلف کاذبا أدخلہ اللہ النار ولا کفارۃ فیہا إلا التوبۃ والاستغفار۔ الخ (ج۲، ص۷۲) واللہ سبحانہ وتعالیٰ اعلم
