I am sending my question in detail.
1. I would like to know whether it is permissible to do telepathy or hypnotism as a means of treatment or not, as done by a person called Shams ud Din Azeemi in his method of treatment in Karachi? I have read in one of your Fatwas that telepathy or hypnotism is not permissible since it is possible in it for a person to enter into another mind and make happen some evil things as well, with due apologies I am unable to recollect the Fatwa no. As for homeopathic medicines, in spite of having contents of 75% alcohol so far nobody has declared it to be Haram or impermissible, which is being used for treatment..
2. Please inform an experienced Tha'weez for Hepatitis C.
Awaitng the reply.
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful
If any impermissible act or wording is not used in telepathy and hypnotism, and a proper treatment for some diseases through them is also possible then there is no prohibition from the Shar’i point of view either, however if there is a possibility of becoming one’s doctrines and concepts defective due to this practice it is necessary to avoid from same.
As far as the alcoholic mixtures in medicines are concerned, normally these are extracted from other than dates and grapes such as barley, wheat, sulfur and corn etc., and opinions about impurity of which do differ, although it is Halal and clean, if it does not reach the level of intoxication according to Imam Abu Haniffa Rahmathullahi Alaihi. Therefore there is a leeway of consuming it. Anyhow, if it is found through research about a medicine that the alcohol mixed in it is extracted for certain from dates or grapes and also it is proved that its original nature is not changed due to any chemical reaction, in such circumstances consuming of such medicine is impermissible and haram as per the Shari’a and it is incumbent to refrain from it, provided a subsequent non-alcoholic better medicine is available. In the contrary, due to severe necessity under compulsion, there would be an allowance to use it.
As for Hepatitis C it would be beneficent to write and tie, and drinking of Sura e Bayyinah (Chapter 30)
Allah knows best.
